Thanksgiving 2013 - Fruit Turkey

I know the title sounds gross, but it's just fruit shaped like a turkey!  Again, this was my first time trying this out.  Ingredients used:
  • Bag of mixed fruit
  • Container of grapes
  • Honeydew melon
  • One slice of pinapple
  • Leftover cherries
  • Wooden skewers

If I were to do this again I would definitely use fresh fruit or frozen fruit...leaning towards fresh because its more firm, this baby dripped like crazy, and got really soggy.  It was cute while it lasted! lol.  I cut a small slice off the bottom of the honeydew to give it a base to sit on & not tilt over.  Then I made fruit kabobs on the skewers and placed around the back of the melon.  For the head I placed a cherry & peach slice on a toothpick and stuck into the melon.  I had a leftover slice of pineapple from a ham I was baking and added it around the neck just for artistic value.  For the wings I took more peach slices and adhered them onto the sides with toothpicks.  I made two of these, one for my parents dinner and the other for my in-laws.

They also made great centerpieces for dinner!!!

My nephew & son devouring the cake pops...yes they were very hyper after that!
