With The Walking Dead Season 4 returning with Episode 9 on February 9th, I decided to share a premier party we had last October (2013) for the beginning of Season 4. For some reason, I never got into Walking Dead. I’m not even sure if I had ever heard of it before last fall. But with last fall’s season premier approaching, I decided to get caught up by watching the marathon from the beginning. Wow, I couldn’t believe I passed this show up tuning into countless reality shows. After the marathon I was hooked, and couldn’t wait for the new season. So of course I wanted to have a premier party, and scoured the web for inspiration. The first thing I did was buy the zombie love plates, cups & napkins from a local party store. Then I moved on to food. I came across a photo of a skull covered with various sliced sandwich meat & cheeses. It was the most beautiful & grotesque platter I had ever seen…and oh, how I wanted one. So while browsing dollar tree I came across a plastic skull that would be perfect to re-create the meat platter with. I bought some sandwich meat & cheese from the deli and went to work. After sanitizing the skull, my husband began to assemble the thinly sliced meat around the skull, stuck in some gum shaped eye ball candy, and added the remaining meat & cheese to the platter. I loved the way it turned out. The platter was the centerpiece, but we also had buns to make sandwiches with, chips & various dips, little smokies, and cupcakes.
The cupcakes were regular white cake mix with vanilla frosting. I made zombie cupcake toppers but ran out of time to put them together, so I settled for eyeball candy I had purchased for Halloween. They did look like zombie eyes. I also had some skull & spider rings I added just because. I found some cute marshmallow skull pops I set out just for decoration.
I created water bottle labels with the walking dead logo & characters. I created my own template in word, cut, and glued on the bottle. Normally I would laminate the sheets before cutting & gluing, but I didn’t have the time. The labels got a little wet when the water was in the freezer, but no one really noticed.
It was so much fun. When gusts arrived we had the house completely dark. We all put zombie masks on and caught them off guard. I was hiding outside and snuck up behind them while my husband & brother in-law spooked them out inside! Hilarious!!!
